Firstly I think reading a good book is much better than watching television because when are you reading you can imagine the situation and actually the actor is much better to discribe something, like for exemple, the place, the scenery, In other side, television you can see whats happens,
Secondly, one point in favour is when are you reading a book, you can use your imagination, and you needs do think much more about the subjects. And the other hand, television you don´t need necessarialy be attention on everything,you just watch and is it. In fact watching TV is more convenient.
The main advantage of read a book is everytime when are you read, you think in one point of view and when you will read again, you always can found something news. This is much common.
In fact hardly there are something against read a book, specially for adults, Against it , there are only one restriction for some age, like for exemple, a children usually they need to read something for theirs age. In another side, there are many things against watch TV, specially for children too, because some programs are not aproprieted a children.
Personally I don´t have much paciante to watch TV, I need to program my time to watch and to choose a good program.
In my point of view, I prefer much more read a good book than watch TV, or I prefer go to the cinema than wath a movie in the video, but when you don´t have a cinema to go, is better you watch TV in home.
Finally, book is much more richest than watch TV, for all point of views.
