Romero Britto’s monumental sculptures, mixed media creations and art work can be seen throughout Monaco’s Le Metropole shopping center through October. One of Monaco’s most upscale malls, Le Metropole caters to the city’s discerning shoppers with stand-alone stores like Kenzo and Christian Lacroix, and retailers that boast fashions from designers Yves Saint Laurent, Alexander McQueen, Gucci, Marc Jacobs and others. “Romero Britto’s work is perfect for our customers,” notes Le Metropole Communication Director, Frederic Pla, “His work is colorful, flashy and trendy.” It is work that fits perfectly into the cutting edge, luxurious and indulgent atmosphere of Monaco where bold, bright and monumental are synonymous with the city. Britto’s large scale sculptures, measuring six feet and over, “Squeaki,” “The Big Apple,” the “Beach Ball,” and a classic heart titled, “For You,” make audacious artistic statements on all three floors of the shopping center. They are joined by Britto’s mixed-media creations, “Male Torso” and “Fashionista,” as well as Britto painted columns throughout the mall, Britto-ized doors as one enters the shopping center, and a sizeable serigraph (a copy of an original work of art) that illustrates Britto’s painting style. “Shoppers love it,” adds Pla. Le Metropole, built in 1988, with 20,000 shoppers per day, is France’s number two most visited shopping center. BACK
